The Case for Annual Giving to the Lake Chapala Society
The members of our Lakeside community are a unique group of people, born in many countries from around the world, and having led amazing lives. Today people are making their homes at lakeside in increasing numbers.
Permanent residents and snowbirds alike, enjoy the great climate, culture and social life that lakeside offers. In this context we realize that for the last 60 years the Lake Chapala Society has been a great benefit to the entire community - members, non-members, foreigners and nationals alike! Ask yourself, “what would life Lakeside be like without LCS?”
For the foreigner, in some way the LCS has touched your life in a visible fashion. The free services LCS offers to members and non-members alike are staggering: ear, eye, blood pressure and skin cancer exams; access to insurance, legal and immigration service providers; Minestero Publico, Vecinos en Alerta, and for U.S. citizens a monthly visit from the consulate and a Talking Books program for the visually impaired (courtesy of the U.S. Library of Congress).
Couple this with our behind the scenes relationships with the municipal and state government advocating for security and infrastructure needs, you can be assured that the quality of your life lakeside is being looked after.
For the Mexican community LCS, its members and volunteers have made amazing contributions at improving and enriching lives. The Children's Art Program, the Neill James Biblioteca Publica, English as a Second Language classes, the Needlepushers who sew dresses and vests for school children, Career Day at the Chapala High School, a poster program reminding students of the importance of education for the primary and middle schools and of course our financial aid program supporting talented students to attend university or technical school. Likewise all of the free services mentioned above are open to the Mexican community as well.
Through membership the LCS encourages and enables the foreign community to experience the richness of Mexico by acquiring Spanish language skills, organizing excursions to nearby communities, cultural events, and much more. Our members only services and activities like mail courier, shopping in metro Guadalajara, and a myriad social activities tops off the value that membership provides.
However given the enormity and complexity of LCS, membership dues alone are not sufficient to cover all of the labor that LCS accomplishes.
Contributions of time, talent and financial resources through the Lake Chapala Society are a means of expressing gratitude for being able to experience the adventure of daily life at Lakeside.
And like the practice of re-investing dividends in an investment portfolio, the development of a personal habit of annual giving leads to big rewards. When you contribute to a community project of interest to you, you naturally pay attention to it, observe other areas of unmet needs and opportunities that ought to be explored.
With each giving cycle, there is the opportunity to enhance the project with an expanded scope or a new initiative with the help of your financial gift or volunteer expertise. The impact of an annual giving commitment changes a contribution from an impersonal gift to a personal gift whose benefits ripple through the community.
To be sure, your annual gift will provide observable benefits.

What Projects Need My Support?
Gifts to the Lake Chapala Society may be undesignated, allowing the LCS Board to allocate funds to support and expand the general services to members and outreach into our community. Funds may also be requested from the Board to initiate new programs, as the need arises.
Undesignated Giving Opportunities
Gifts to the LCS may also be designated to benefit a particular program or activity of importance to you. This option empowers the Directors of those programs to make your gift a visible response to the needs you wish to address in the community.
