The Case for Annual Giving to the Lake Chapala Society

For over 60 years the Lake Chapala Society has been a force for good at Lakeside. From helping newcomers successfully integrate into our community, representing the collective interests of our Community, to providing continuing education and stimulation for our longer-term residents.

The LCS provides everything from Spanish language training to a highly regarded children's art program. The LCS offers over 100 programs, services and activities in total. We believe the LCS is the oldest and largest expatriate organization in the world.

A very specific LCS strategy has been to contain membership dues and program/activity fees to a minimum. In fact Membership fees contribute less than half of the LCS’s funding requirements. Our thinking is this will make the benefits available to a wider audience. In order to support this strategy, LCS requires funding over and above that provided by dues, fees and special events. That is the purpose of the Annual Giving Campaign.

Monies collected through the Campaign are treated the same as all other sources of revenue such as membership dues and program fees. They go directly to support all the LCS programs and services that members value and enjoy.

Respectfully,

Stephen Balfour        George Radford
President                   Secretary and Chair of the Fund Development Committee

How you Can Support LCS Programs

The Lake Chapala Society will gratefully receive your donations in a number of forms:
  • Your Donation to the Annual Giving campaign supports the General Fund which supplements membership funds and allocate resources to further the organization's mission to our members and the community.
  • A Designated Donation. You may also designate that your donation support an LCS program that you believe in. The column on the right of this page describes several LCS programs that you might consider.
  • A Tribute or Memorial Donation. Perhaps there is a person or an event that you feel should be remembered. A gift of a memorial object, piece of equipment that enhances the LCS campus and programs, or an endowment for continuing a service project might be the perfect means of preserving that memory. The Executive Director would be happy to explore your ideas for a suitable tribute or memorial project.
  • A Deferred Donation. Those who are proud of the work of today's LCS programs will want to assure that they will continue long into the future. A deferred donation to the LCS from your estate following death is an excellent way to make your dedication to the LCS live on into the future. The LCS will be grateful for your bequests of cash, securities, real estate or other assets. You will need to discuss these details with your legal and financial advisors. The Executive Director also is prepared to assist in helping you create a legacy gift that reflects your goals for the organization.

How to Make a Donation to LCS

The Lake Chapala Society provides several means for making a donation.Just click on any of the Donate buttons on this page or any program description page on this site. The button links to our master donation page, where you can indicate the amount and type of donation you wish to provide. All donations are specified in Mexican Pesos.
  • On-Line. This is the most convenient way to support the LCS. On-line donations are processed by PayPal, enabling you to make a donation fromthe bank account linked to your PayPal account, or by major credit card. If you do not already have a PayPal account, you can quickly create a basic account that will allow you to donate using your credit card. Paypal will handle all required foreign currency conversions.
  • Tax Deductible (US) Contribution. If you would like to make your contribution qualify for a US charitable tax deduction, the Foundation for Lake Chapala Charities can process your donation for LCS. Click Foundation for Lake Chapala Charities and complete the Donation Form. Be sure to select the Lake Chapala Society as the charity to receive your contribution and designate your payment for "LCS annual giving campaign". Once your payment is recorded, you will get a tax deduction letter to use for filling out your US taxes.
  • In Person. If you prefer to make your donation in cash, the staff in the LCS Business Office is prepared to receive your gift. Office hours are Monday - Saturday, 10AM - 2PM.
  • In Consultation with the Executive Director. Donations for Tributes, Memorials, and Deferred Giving plans will require more detailed preparations. Feel free to contact the LCS Executive Director, Steve Balfour, at executivedirector@lakechapalasociety.com to discuss your ideas.

What Projects Need My Support?

Gifts to the Lake Chapala Society may be undesignated, allowing the LCS Board to allocate funds to support and expand the general servicesto members and outreach into our community. Funds may also be requested from the Board to initiate new programs, as the need arises.
