The Consulate General of the United States' U.S Citizens Services unit assists with:
- Passport Services (Applications, Renewals and reports of Stolen or Lost Passports). This process can now be managed on-line, except in extraordinary circumstances that may require a personal interview with consular staff. Documentation of lost or stolen passports may be completed on-line, but generally require a personal interview.
- Citizenship Services involving reports of children of U. S. citizens born in Mexico, marriages, and adoptions.
- Notary Services. These services are available by appointment only.
Please note: There is no walk-in service for United States citizens who require any of the listed services. If the on-line process determines that a personal interview is required, it will link you to a secondary program in which you can select a date and time for your appointment at the Consulate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, personal interview appointments are very limited.
On-line requests for any of the listed services begin on the Consulate web site HERE
NOTE: The US Consulate General (USCG) does not provide Social Security assistance. If you need Social Security information or help, contact the Federal Benefits Unit by email or by appointment. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)
We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Mexico enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) HERE . STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
